David Oh filed this class action against Sunvalleytek, alleging that Sunvalleytek violated California’s Unfair Competition Law (UCL), by engaging in unlawful, fraudulent, and unfair conduct, and California’s Consumer Legal Remedies Act (CLRA), which prohibits companies from unfair and deceptive acts and practices. The lawsuit alleges that Sunvalleytek paid customers to post positive reviews and to remove negative reviews from its Amazon stores, thus artificially inflating the rating of Sunvalleytek's products.

The California Unfair Competition Law is a consumer protection law that makes it illegal for companies to engage in unlawful, fraudulent, and unfair conduct in their business.
The California’s Consumer Legal Remedies Act (CLRA) is set of statutes that protects consumers from false advertising, fraud, and other unfair business practices. The law allows consumers to bring individual or class action lawsuits to recover damages and to stop the unlawful practices.
In a class action, one person called the "Plaintiff" (in this case, David Oh) sues on behalf of themselves and other people with similar claims.
All of the people who have claims similar to the Plaintiff are class members, except for those who exclude themselves from the class, among others.
The court certified the following class:
All individuals who purchased an electronics products sold by a Sunvalleytek International, Inc. Amazon storefront, while living in California. The class includes those individuals that purchased products during the applicable statue for the UCL, CLRA and unjust enrichment claims:
• UCL claim: February 10, 2018, to present
• CLRA claim: February 10, 2019, to present
• Unjust enrichment claim: February 10, 2019, to present.
Excluded from the class and the subclasses: (1) any Judge or Magistrate Judge presiding over this action and the members of their family; (2) Defendant, Defendant’s subsidiaries, parents, successors, predecessors, and any entity in which the Defendant or its parents have a controlling interest and their current employees, officers and directors; (3) persons who properly execute and file a timely request for exclusion from the class; (4) persons whose claims in this matter have been finally adjudicated on the merits or otherwise released; (5) Plaintiff’s counsel and Defendant’s counsel, and their experts and consultants; and (6) the legal representatives, successors, and assigns of any such excluded persons.

You may exclude yourself from this class action - in which case you will not receive any payment as a result of this class action if money becomes available. - The electronics product you purchased from Sunvalleytek’s Amazon storefront; and
- A clear and unambiguous statement that you want to be excluded from this case, such as “I request to be excluded from the class in David Oh v. Sunvalleytek International, Inc.”
You must sign your request personally. If any person signs on your behalf, that person must attach a copy of a power of attorney authorizing his or his signature.
No. Unless you exclude yourself, you give up the right to sue Sunvalleytek. You must exclude yourself from this class action in order to pursue your own lawsuit against Sunvalleytek.
If you exclude yourself, you give up the possibility of receiving any money resulting from this class action. You will, upon being excluded from the class, not be bound by any orders or judgments that the court issues in connection with this class action. If you plan to exclude yourself and file an individual action against Sunvalleytek, you will have to find and hire your own lawyer, if you want a lawyer to represent you. You will also have to independently prove your claims.
